Shine open courses are usually requested by clients who wanted to be on a course with female leaders from other companies and industries in order to mingle with other systems; with Cal and Anna both being systemic coaches. In this article Anna discusses the pro and cons of this interesting request.

What indeed is more rewarding? To share ideas and experiences with women from other industries or to get a deeper connection with the women from your own company.

When Shine for Women works with a company like Wunderman or JWT we go deep: it means we take 150 women from all over the globe through the same Shine experience and do 3 workshops with around 45 – 65 women in 3 areas: EMEA, The Americas and Asia. These women all work for the same company but they might not have met before and they do work in different geographical areas. If you take Asia as an example the workshop will include women from India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Australia and for The Americas you would have South America, the US and Canada in one workshop. EMEA includes The Middle East, Eastern Europe and Northern Europe all together – so many different languages, nationalities and markets in one room for 2-3 days. This shows that our corporate programmes actually do both: bring women from one company together to have the time, space and confidence to make a plan about the change they want to see and to get enough stimulus through the cultural, political and geographical differences of the markets.

When we worked with WPP we went horizontal. We did invite one or two leaders from each company to exchange ideas and get to know each other in order to create a horizontal network among their female leaders which will foster collaboration and support among the companies. As Sir Martin Sorrell has said: “Put women in charge to transform your business.”

Which one you choose depends on what you want to achieve. Do you want your women to become a collective force that will lead to more women at the top? Or do you want your female talent to get individual time, space, inspiration and ideas from women in other industries. Either way it’s a win-win.
